Narrative from another experienced JetPROP pilot:

“Yes, I have experienced this situation in Jetprops with the MT prop, in several aircraft, -21 and -35. It is not pleasant, especially at night or over terrain, common places for ice. But turbulence not pleasant either, so I never saw a problem with the situation. The MT + PT6 is so smooth normally I think the problem is more noticeable. In a meridian or jetprop with original Fat Blade prop, baseline vibration is higher.

If one area would be good to look at -
I normally see 29 amps on the blade cycles of the prop heat. But on many (but not all) MT props I see 23 amps. All of the vibration incidents for me have been in 23 amp draw MT props. 11.5 amps is the engine inlet face, remainder to the prop...

So maybe we are underpowering the prop heat in the MTs somehow. But other than that, the vibration is a normal part of icing with an MT prop in my experience. Other props too, with more ice, but the MT even with light ice.”

Yes. I am aware of these “vibrations” (only noticed and occurring in light to moderate icing conditions), as well – because I have experienced them personally. It also seems to occur with the MT Propeller, no less.

I will review the post with engineering and will come back to you soon.

Lieber Herr Schroer,

ich möchte ein JetProp-Problem thematisieren, da ich annehme, dass auch Flugzeuge der MMIG46 betroffen sind.
In LOWI sind wir mittlerweile 4 (vier! - wohl die höchste JetProp- Dichte an einem europäischen Flughafen?). 3 davon haben das selbe
Problem:

Bei Flügen in Vereisungsbedingungen - selbst bei leichtem Ansatz - ertönt vom Triebwerk manchmal (nicht immer!) von einer Sekunde auf die andere ein "rauer" Triebwerkslauf. Ich möchte mich nicht darauf festlegen, ob es eine Vibration ist - es klingt nur ein wenig angsteinflößend und wird vor allem auch von den Passagieren wahrgenommen.

Da die Spitze des Spinners nach solchen Flügen stets vereist ist, wähnte ich darin die Ursache. Aber wir haben verschiedene Propeller installiert, und MT-Straubing schloss ein Problem aus, da das Eis im Zentrum der Rotation und sehr gleichmäßig auftritt. Das ist plausibel.
Viel mehr wähnte man ein Problem bei der Enteisung der einzelnen Propellerblätter, doch ergab eine Überprüfung, dass sie tadellos funktioniert.

Das Geräusch lässt mit der Zeit nach, oder setzt auch abrupt aus, um wenig später wieder zu kommen. Unser Mechaniker vermutet, dass es mit der Ansaugluft und der Umlenkung um 180° zusammenhängt und sich irgendwo Eis ansetzt. Die drei betroffenen JetProps haben 2x /21 und 1x /34 eingebaut. Bei einer Mirage mit /35 wurde dieses Problem noch nicht beobachtet.

Auf der www.jetprop.com haben wir keine diesbezüglichen Meldungen nachlesen können. Vielleicht möchten SIE im MMIG46-Forum dieses Phänomen beschreiben und um ein Feedback anderer JetProp-Piloten bitten?
